Marble and venetian glass smalti.
Arianna Gallo is based in Ravenna, Italy. Yes, that Ravenna. And she has a most impressive mosaic CV.
So its not surprising that she is responsible for this very witty little table. And it had me looking twice because the 50 and 100 denomination paper bills are the same colour as the Australian ones with our $10 being blue rather than our $20. Check out her photostream as there are many interesting mosaics there including work on some very very known modern Ravenna mosaics.
And yes, she does give lessons

9″x12″ wall tile. Mirror, vitreous, porcelain, china, smalto, silver, lapis. Apr 2006. Voted best MAO April Challenge!
I first saw this on one of the Yahoo Mosaic groups just after I started mosaicking and this self portrait by Cathy Weeks really made an impression. It still does. I always look forward to seeing what she is coming up with next.

FInished! Yippee, I was kinda horrified to find black grout inside the tub, esp. since I thought it was white. It was the last one and I wasn’t going out again, so I took a leap of faith and used it. Problem was it stained the light wood. So I ran out a day later and got a wood stain in a dark color and it camofluaged that problem. Are they perfect? No. Yet I like them still! It took me from last summer’s inlaying objects to this summer to be brave enough to grout the darned thing… Well I tried to photograph without the toilet showing but couldn’t. Most people are taller than I and will have a different view from the mirror…. At least I hope! Let there be light!
I’m so glad the white grout turned out to be black. White grout is one of those things that can be stunning – but more often doesn’t quite do the mosaic justice. Black grout is much more flattering in many cases. Messy though.

No idea where this is. Anyone recognise it?
