What happens when a mosaic has been removed for archeological purposes and then disaster strikes in the form of a fire.

I never would have found this one on flickr without being pointed in its direction. It just doesn't have any tags that relate to anything mosaic. It's an amazing mannequin. Now to go exploring in the rest of that photostream…

Over two hundred tiles, two years and lots of blood sweat and tears has resulted in a mosaic garden gallery which will become part of history.
This colourful mosaic gallery garden reflects the talents and lives of people who live in the Lake Grace area.
The community art project has taken longer than two years and was the brainchild of Lake Grace nurse and artist Kerry Argent. The project started so long ago that Kerry says she can’t remember how she came up with the idea. She wanted to do something for the community to take their minds off the drought and difficult situation most of the local people were facing.
With support from the Lake Grace and District Health Service the project involved more than 100 people. A walk through the 260 mosaics; some of them commemorative, others artistic and even some humourous. The mosaics show farms, school, community and family history.
Suicide mosaic :: ABC Alice Springs
In Alice Springs there is now a memorial, a suicide mosaic, remembering those who ended their lives and those who have been left behind.
Created by a local artist, the mosaic is by the Senior Citizens’ Centre by the Todd River and Laurencia Grant from the Central Australian Mental Health Association, says the site is really a place to meet.
“There’s a plaque and I guess it is significant that people will be walking past there all the time, and hopefully will stop and have a think about the issue of suicide.”
The ABC Gardening Australia magazine for July 2006 is featuring mosaics. It looks at a garden full of mosaics and also has tips for creating your own pebble mosaic.
What to do? Well, the excellent Joy of Shards website has the following suggestions. I do suggest that if you are going to raid the kitchen for jelly moulds and the like, to ask the cooks in the house first. Otherwise next time you may find yourself wearing the stuff…

Selley’s Liquid Nails [Mirror-Metal-Glass]
If you are going to work with this stuff it is definitely worth reading the product information. You can’t use this for birdbaths or swimming pools. Once its stuck down, consider it permanent. And no vinyl backed mirror.
It can stick mirrors to walls, house numbers to exterior walls including some sheet metals.
