The historic potential of mosaic fascinates me. A map like this can tell so much about the history of Jerusalem and what the artist considered important. This 6th century map of Jerusalem was found under the floor of MAdaba’s St George’s Church.

As the owner of a house that wants to fall apart and a kitchen that needs redoing, any ideas of ways to revitalise the place are very welcome.
I wouldn't mind knowing what kind of sealant was used on top of the grouted product. I suspect it would have to be something with heaps of polyurethane in it. Looks good though and the mosaic itself ,while timeconsuming, wouldn't be too difficult to do.
1. A safety kit consisting of safety goggles, ear muffs and some disposable dustmasks. $9.97.
The ear muffs are actually for mowing the lawn and I already have a respirator mask but that’s hot and sticky and really unwieldy.
2. Rubber gloves $1.85
3. A sponge $2.68. It’s going to get chopped up into smaller pieces too.
4. 2 kg of Davcon #4 mid-grey grout. It’s the colour I used on the turtle and its really versatile.
Total: $22.30 at Bunnings.
Looked at the cost of face shields – $23 so they are cheaper than expected. Bunnings also have Dunlop brand grout. I do want to buy some sealant that would work for terracotta pots. There’s some spray stuff that goes for $11-15. I need to find out what brands are best.
