To kit or not to kit…

I'm not a big fan of mosaic kits. A lot of them are very boring looking and have really simple patterns that most people should be able to draw rather easily. I don't get turned on by that. Personally I prefer to learn from the drawing experience even though I don't consider myself very good at drawing. But I notice looking at the searches that people do to get to this website, that "mosaic kits" seems to be a popular search term.
So there obviously is a role for these things.

Brett Campbell seems to have some decent looking ones here in Australia. Here are some examples and if you click on the pictures, the appropriate page on Brett's website will open up…

Chakra [sacral]: Beginner level

Dreamcatcher [fiery]: Intermediate level

Hearts [gold]: Difficult level

I suppose ultimately it comes down to whether kits keep people mosaicking. If it sparks off somebody's interest, fine. It's a great introduction. And for people who otherwise wouldn't have the resources to mosaic by actually going out and collecting the bits and pieces for themselves, its a great way to get past that step.
