The theme today is…FISH

I'm considering doing a lazy susan with three interlocking fish on it for friends when my glass tiles arrive. So I'm blogging fish pictures to give me an idea of what works and what doesn't.

A farewell…

Shards Concert – english
In an email from a mosaic mailing list I am on…

I have the regret to announce the death of Juanito who is also a
member of this group and coordinator of the “Shards Concert, matter of
dreams” project to which some of you have contributed.

I am not familiar with this type of exercise and in pain… no long
epitaph is necessary, his work, his personality stand for themselves,
we have lost a great friend and the mosaic community has lost a great
member.

He leaves a young son and a wife, we share in their grief.

The colours are very Asian and much more delicate than their North African counterparts. An interesting contrast.

Art Walk

When I look at this lamp post I can't help but feel a little chirpier. Bright bouncy…those colours are guaranteed to uplift most people's mood. This is one of the things I really like about mosaics. Its accessible and durable. Why councils don't encourage it more in this kind of way, I have no idea.

I like this photo because there is enough detail to show how the artist did it. Especially on the curves. I like being able to tell how the smalti and grout were done.

Etsy specialises in handmade goods and is a wonderful forum for artists and craftspeople to sell their wares. At the moment it seems to be mostly based in the USA. But there is certainly room for other countries to get involved.

Progress Report IV

This gives an idea what the final result will look like. The light coloured pieces still need to be glued. Next session looks like a session of sticking things down.

One step closer to…grouting. And I still have no idea what colour grout to use hat will give the turtle some definition. Needs to be light but not too light.

Anyone out there have some ideas?

Somehow I ended up at Kristin again. I'm very glad I did. I'm familiar with Klimt. I'm more familiar with Hundertwasser. I'm very familiar with Aboriginal art. But who is Molas?

Not who but what.

A mola is an embroidered panel made by Kuna Indian women. Where do the Kuna come from? They are the indigenous people of the San Blas Archipelago along the Atlantic coast of Panama and Columbia.
